Solid Gold Medieval Engraved Posy Ring

Solid Gold Medieval Engraved Posy Ring
Solid gold bands engraved in archaic medieval French with "I am a token of love, do not give me away"
Posy, poesy, posey or posie rings - spelt a dozen ways in true medieval tradition, refer to a gold band with engraved words, a short personal sentiment or poem . It translates to a small bouquet of flowers, poetic words ( poesie in French). It was a medieval tradition , so enduringly charming that these rings were given as a love tokens and betrothal rings until the end of the 17th Century. The tradition from then was largely forgotten . Seeing an original posy ring in London was the enchantment that led to Victoria’s ongoing obsession with incorporating these words of love. It began with her very first tiny silver rings sold at Sydney’s Paddington market in 1992, and led to her first store in the Strand Arcade soon after.
This gold band is a replica of an ancient ring in the Victoria and Albert museum in London. It is the original inspiration for all the custom engraved bands that Victoria began to make for her clients in the decades that followed.
